The Journal and the importance of the routine

Why it is so important and what is the benefit of keeping a journal?


I've never been a kind of person with a standard routine and never really been able to do the same thing every day.

Last year I've been on a Wellness Coaching Workshop with beautiful soul Renata (Zen Ren Wellness), as I was quite depressed an needed something that can really motivate and energise me.

The most important thing I've learned from that that, other than restarting yoga and meditation, was mainly 2 things:


1) writing down how I feel, what was making me unhappy but most importantly a gratitude list was making me feel happier already


2) create a wellness routine which could be anything that you like, which is a little daily ceremony to remind yourself how you are worthy, loved and deserve a special cuddle.

For example for me is my daily routine with essential oil, yoga and meditation with crystals, lighting a candle every evening after dinner, burning incense, drink my favourite infusion etc.

It can be even something like how you prepare your breakfast, or beauty routine how you wash your face, use creams etc


My life is quite busy, and building a routine was never something I've been good at. I travel a lot which doesn't make it easy.

I've built my little travel essentials rituals with small incense, 2 essential oils.. 1 for the morning to boost my energy and 1 to relax and sleep better, and pick 1 or 2 crystal I feel the right ones during my travels.


I have started my journal.. another thing I've never been good at.

There are plenty of choices if you want to use one that gives some guidance or you can start from an white paper. Personally I use the Moon Man Diary, because it helps me learning about irish ancient traditions, being synced with the moon cycle and gives good simple guidance.

What for me really helped was:


- finding a good quality time at the end of the day

- reflections about the day, what worked well and what didn't work

- how would I do things differently, what I would like to repeat

- organize my thoughts

- increase creativity

- realise what I am grateful for


The rituals and the journal are good and simple tools to establish a cycle. You can spend time for yourself and pay more attention to what is going on with your life, it is so simple and so powerful.


Now more than ever, in a period where we need to stay home and we are all scared and worried, we have the time and the opportunity to do that. This is especially helpful in a moment like this, where we experience feelings like isolation and fear.
