What is a moon cycle?
"The Moon takes 27.3 days to orbit Earth, but the lunar phase cycle (from new Moon to new Moon) is 29.5 days. The Moonspends the extra 2.2 days "catching up" because Earth travels about 45 million miles around the Sun during the time the Moon completes one orbit around Earth"
While in Ireland I am learning more about some Celtic ancient traditions which are very much connected with everything is cyclic.
Everything in life is seasonal and cyclic, the moon cycle helps following a more natural pace.
How many times you've heard that women give birth usually on New Moon? or have you realised that when you see a movie, how often the full moon is used as a powerful image to show that something important is happening? Or how the moon phases are used in agriculture?
Especially in women this is more evident. The menstrual cycle is synchronised with the lunar cycle, we need to know about it and how work through can really help to realise that this is not something to be ashamed, but to leverage as a true a expression of feminine power. Ideally we should bleed on new moon as it is a start of a new cycle and ovulate for the full moon, but every woman is different. From menarche to menopause we have an incredible opportunity, and this level of awareness is luckily growing. Check Red Moon school and Womb blessing about Miranda Gary. I will share more about womb energy and menstrual cycle.
I can say what is my experience and how more recently I have explored more about it.
I know moon craft for a long time but in the last few months I've really work through the moon cycle to tune in my feminine expression. I have attended a workshop and still actively participate to the moon craft circles by the astrologer Katrina Brady in Dublin.
I am also very passionate about astrology and getting more knowledge of the universe, it gives more insight and opportunities to understand our emotions and what need to be released and which intentions will need to be set.
Working through the seasons and the moon cycle are ancient traditions that are becoming more frequently used in the modern world. It give us incredible opportunities for:
feel the present moment
stop and think where we are in our journey
express gratitude for the beautiful things in our life
release our fears which are holding us to express our true self
set intentions and goalsI've always been a big fan of ceremonies in general.
How can we activate the power of the moon cycle? I will deep a little bit into the New Moon/Full Moon Ceremony.
What is a ceremony? Just think about weddings or religious celebrations...They are rites of passage, there is some tension because something needs to be released and because we are uncertain of what a new beginning will bring.
But what is the power of ceremonies? And what is a moon ceremony?
What is needed for a moon ceremony? This is what I usually do:
put together a small altar with something that represents the 4 elements.
Earth: stones that I am mostly use in this period
Fire: a candle
Air: incense, preferably white sage or palo santo
Water: favourite essential oil, preferably Frankincense or just a glass of water. I have my special one "MoonCycle" blend by a fantastic Italian brand called Olfattiva.
write down what I want to release, that is not anymore needed and set intentions. Sometimes I even burn the paper
pick one or more cards to help get some insight. My favourites Moonology cards by Yasmin Boland, Work your light by Rebecca Toughts, Labyrinth Wisdom cards by Tony and Goddess Oracle.
drink ceremonial cacao. I use Keith's cacao.
meditation and the beginning and at the end of the ceremony.
Have you ever done a moon ceremony? I would love to see your insight and altars
If you also would like to know more about some of the topics I mentioned today like the ceremonial cacao, the menstrual cycle, the cards etc let me know I'll be happy to share more
I hope you like my altar from my New Moon ceremony yesterday
